The canoe trail Garhytteån / The Northern Arbogaån in the Bergslagen region in Sweden
The canoe trail from Nittälven's sources to Mälaren flows along the same river. The river changes the name along its course and there are separate canoe trail descriptions for the different stretches.
Garhytteån/Northern Arbogaån flows between Kopparberg and Lindesberg. The recommendation is to start the canoeing at Lilläng (North of Norrsjön). The stretch north of Lilläng is not good for canoeing and should be avoided. After Norrsjön, the river changes name to Storån. Storån ends in the lake, Råsvalen. The next name change, to Bottenån, take place along the river stretch from Råsvalen to Lindesberg. Bottenån is a deep river where even boats can pass. Garhytteån/Northern Arbogaån offers a variety in its paddling as well some charming samples of Swedish culture, e.g. the small museums in Kopparberg and Löa Hytta.

The paddler is a guest in the nature and is required to demonstrate responsibility and care. Not to harm and not to destroy. We have the right to enjoy Swedish nature, but there is also a duty to behave responsibly. The paddler’s only trace should be the whirlpools from the paddles.
