Cross country skiing in the Malingsbo-Kloten Nature Reserve in Sweden

Cross-country skiing in nice groomed ski tracks on the snow safe high plateau in the Malingsbo-Kloten Nature Reserve in Sweden, 2,5 hour drive from Stockholm. The area offer unlimited opportunities for long loops with a combination of forest trails and lakes. The area comes into its full potential when lakes ice thickness allows trail traction over the ice. 
The ski tracks in the Nature Reserve start and end at the square in the village Kloten. Between Kloten's Wilderness Lodge and Nordic Discovery's Adventure Center. Along road 233 between Skinnskatteberg and Kopparberg.

Best possible trail traction due to the prevailing conditions

As water ways and forest trails offers varied opportunities for trail traction, it is the prevailing snow, ice and wind conditions that offer the visiting skiers a variety of ski tracks. The ski tracks are always adapted to fit the prevailing natural conditions and the visitors are often offered different ski track combinations on different visits.

Ski track fee

A custom for visiting skiers is to show their appreciation for the ski track preparation, by the contribution according to the norm 40 SEK/adult and 20 SEK for children and adolescents under 18 years. There is no ski track fee for the guests at the Wilderness Lodge.

Between the first centimeters of snow on the frozen waterways and too much snow for skiing, there is usually a golden period with perfect free skiing conditions which makes fantastic ski touring and ski skating excursions possible. Normally this period of time occurs between mid-January and mid-February.
